Squatters is a very cool show to be working on at this point. It's also the first show I've done where I'm an actual part (to a degree) of the board of directors of the producing theatre company, Troupe du Jour. I'm also playing a lead role in this show. These are not the reasons why you should go see this however. (unless of course, you just want to suppot little ol' egotistical me!)

Here's why you need to see this show:

Kickass Writing The play, an original by our in-house playwright Bryan LaPorte, simply kicks ass- about the best comparisons I can think of on a stylistic level bring out phrases like "Sam Shepard on crack." or "Beckett, with a healthy dose of Stoppard." Seriously good concept, and some absolutely beautiful dialogue.

The Story A couple whose marriage is on the verge of disintegration comes home from a last attempt at patching things up to find four people in their kitchen. Enter the squatters:

Jeb A downright mean good ol' boy, whose only purpose seems to be the antagonization of everyone else.

Ma Jeb's mother. An elderly, frail british woman, Ma is unfortunately afflicted with dyslexic aphasia. In other words, her language skilss have become scrambled. Statements like "Be a dear and bring me a cup of tea," become "Be a has-been and bring me a tack of flea."

Bobby Jeb's son. Bobby's a physicist. Well, actually, a self-styled quantum relativist. A mostly good natured type of individual, but with a rather strong temper to boot.

Baby Bobby's daughter, a young, shy teenager with a kleptomania issue.

The acting! Yeah, one of the most important aspects of the show- and we have some incredible performers working on this production. Trust me, there are point in this show where you'll definitely be on the edge of your seat.

All right enough of me yakking. Needless to say- if you see any live theatre this year, come see this show, and help support Seattle's newest theatre company, Troupe du Jour. For more info on the show, or to reserve tickets, go to: http://www.troupedujour.org
