Crap. Apparently tormentedartifacts.com is experiencing email difficulties at the moment, and has been since about 5am. Hopefully nobody's sent anything truly important my way via email in the last couple of hours.
And in other news, for those wondering why, unlike a bunch of other steampunk/idie/artsy companies, I haven't promised to donate a certain amount of profits made right now to the situation over in Japan, well, here's a few answers for you:
1- If you really, truly, want to help things over there, then you shouldn't be spending twenty bucks with me so that I can send 2.50 or however small an amount over there. Go donate twenty directly to the cause and directly help people out if you can. That's a much better way to provide help to all the people in need over there.
2- Yes, splitting percentages really is a bad way to do disaster relief. Between paypal or card service fees and everything else, your donation through a company that's offering to donate proceeds to a disaster relief agency may be far less than you think.
3- Tormented Artifacts barely operates at an above-poverty level some months. This would be one of those months at this point, unfortunately- I couldn't afford to split my profits if I tried- And yes, I'll be honestly mercenary about it- feeding myself and my family does indeed come first.
So, in short, if you really want to help out with things? Go donate directly. The agencies will appreciate it far more, and while you may not get some shiny thing from your fave merchant for it, you shouldn't really need the additional carrot- helping people is good, and something you can do without getting something for yourself in the process.
