One of the few things I can do in my present condition is play games. Of course, all I have for play these days is a PC, but still... games are good. Like Transcendence, which I've mentioned on here before.

Currently, Transcendence is pissing me off though, and I'd be up for other stuff. Anyone got any good recommendations for something to download?

The only a couple of requirements though:
1. It must be free- there is currently zero money in my gaming budget.
2. It must not be a MMO. Sorry, but I cannot tolerate the mass of MMO-players. I'm after gaming, not conversation, anyways.

That's about it. So, anyone know any good ones?

outside of free online java games, like on PopCap... i don't know what to tell ya really...

there's this thing called Fable (http://www.apolitical.info/webgame/index.php?mode=0) which is kindof a cute time killer...

and of course the Kingdom of Loathing (http://www8.kingdomofloathing.com/main.html) which is fun, but annoying when you run out of "turns" for the day and you're not done playing.

Lots of free games on Mousebreaker (http://www.mousebreaker.com/index.php).

A few more on Lost Vectors (http://www.lostvectors.com).

I play Adventurequest, which is basically a flash platformer grinder. It's stupid, it's free (you can donate 20 bucks and get a bunch of bonus crap but I played for free for a year before I decided, "Fuck it, I kill time on their servers enough... I owe it to em") and it's addictive.

It's family-friendly and simplistic so that it can be played by the widest possible audience, but it's full of geeky references and horrible groaner puns.

The Avernum series is a fun isometric fantasy adventure RPG. You can download and play about half of it for free. Then if you want to unlock the other half you have to pay.

You can try this website http://mywebpages.comcast.net/SupportCD/XPGames.html

Some require you to register them, most don't and some are multiplayer only. They are catagorized by game type and there's quite a few listed.

I hope this works for you

Take the Fedora Games (http://spins.fedoraproject.org/) Live CD for a spin. It'll allow you to play some great Linux games without requiring you to reinstall your OS.

I've been playing the Ur-Quan Masters (http://sc2.sourceforge.net/) a fair bit. If you've never played Star Control 2, I highly recommend it.

You can also hit up The Underdogs (http://www.the-underdogs.info/) and dig up some fantastic old games.

Cave Story must be played by everyone. It's a charming shooter-platformer, comparable to a simplified Metroid. The story is excellent, too. And on top of that, it's made by a single guy. I think I've played through this game three or four times.

On my list of platformers, it beats Mario 3. That's right. Play it.

Back to work, slave!
