Well, they haven't finished voting yet, but it looks like I may be getting the job on converting a big ol' stack of game setting notes into a workable PDF.

If so, it means I've got a good bit of work ahead of me. As it is, I'm probably going to be asking around for opinions on some general book design stuff- mostly issues of composition, rather than rules design, though some of that may come into play as well. Anyways, I'll be nice and keep that stuff on a filter, and while there's some people who probably won't escape being put on it regardless of what they say, (Levi, I'm looking at you here) I'm going to give you lot the chance to opt in if you want.

So, anyone want to be in on the new game design filter? (Also, please note- those of you in the industry/industries who cant see this kind of stuff due to legal reasons, please mention it now, so I make sure to leave you out of the filter.)

When it comes to adding you, I'm honestly torn. See, this exists so I can get opinions and reactions from people who aren't involved in the forum thread- especially since one of the goals of the PDF is to bring Long Stair out to a new audience. I've got a good idea of how those in the thread are going to react to stuff, because they've seen the entire thread already- what I need to know is how a new group of people react to stuff in the thread. It's part marketing, and part editing/pre-alpha testing at the same time.

Anyways, it's not meant for people in the forum thread to see- mostly because it's just pre-dev stuff, and because I need reactions that aren't biased by experience with the thread. Levi's on the filter as an exception- part because I respect him to keep a neutral opinion; part because he's pretty much spearheading the PDF effort, which keeps me honest as a designer; and part to fill in necessary gaps, as he's far more experienced with the thread than I am.

Tell you what- I'll offer you a deal. If you want to give me your word that you will do the following, I'll give you access to the filter.

1: You're an observer only. Fell free to comment to stuff I post on RPG.net about Long Stair, but no commentary on this filter, please.

2: No reposting/discussion/copypasta/anything of the material discussed in the filter. If you have an issue about something I post on the filter, take it up with me in email, but do not post to the filter. Again, it's about getting fresh opinions on the setting, not about hearing what people on the forum have already said.

Violate either of those and you get dropped from the filter.

Ok, that's that. Any of that make sense? If so, cool, let me know you agree and I'll add you? If you want to discuss stuff before that, let me know as well, and we'll talk.

Sorry, new to LJ & didn't think about adding lj-notify to my whitelist. Good thing I was checking Junkmail.

I have absolutely no problem with either issue, 1 or 2. Just to be sure -

1 - I don't post to the filter thread - if there's something there I want to talk about, I email you.

2 - I very especially do not post stuff from the filter thread to RPG Net.

Cool?
