The cake in a mug recipe, as ganked from
mahariel and
prairieflower:
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
a small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug
Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly. Pour in the milk and oil and mix well. Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high). The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed! Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.
EAT! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous). And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world? Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake at any time of the day or night!
And, since me and the kidlet have time to kill, I have now attempted this recipe. Had to use canola oil in place of the more tyical vegetable oil, but otherwise, followed the recipe- sans chocolate chips.
The end result? Well, it's an ugly little spud. I also didn't quite mix well enough. bit of powder at the bottom. That probably wasn't aided by the shape of the mug I was using (mine flared out a bit at the base.)
The taste? Well, it ain't heaven in a mug, but it certainly is chocolate cake. I'd give it maybe a five out of ten on flavor. Texture's a bit dry, though I wonder how much that would be different with chips and veg oil in the mix. That could also be a microwave issue- our igh is apparently 1300 watts as opposed to 1000.
Overall- it ain't great, but it most certainly IS decent chocolate cake in a mug, done inside of three minutes. Perfect snack for a day like this.

I don't want to make an awful cake. So I hope this isn't one.
