My god. The pain levels today have been off the charts. Late night scooter riding in the cold and wet is, apparently, still on my "thing's I can't do yet" list.
That said, Tonight, I'm working on new shit. Because new shit is what's needed to fill stock totes.
And I'm working on inspirations for new stuff. Like the videos my kid is currently addicted to- 09, by Shane Acker.
Or other bits. Which I'm looking for. So, right now, I ask this- what's in your head? What's speaking to you? What's giving you nightmares, stirring your passions, capturing your interest, or even just tickling your fancy? What leaves you sitting on your balcony at 1:18 in the morning, staring up at the bleak cloudscape, and just plain thinking that's cool?
Words are good. Pictures are good. Links and embeds are good. Most of all, answers are good.

Date: 2009-01-12 08:04 am (UTC)I am just finishing re-reading James Ellroy's LA Quartet, a series that kind of changed my life when I first read them at 18, and getting even more out of them this time around. I am seriously dying for some crime fiction ideas to write about, because I feel like my ideas about the genre have solidified enough that I could do some really good work. And I'm feeling that good old Anxiety of Influence because my highest ambition as a crime writer is to do something that would make Ellroy proud. I love the way he writes about what drives acts of weakness and brutality and courage and heroism, his sense of redemption even though the world he writes about is so deeply compromised. I find myself kin of wanting to be one of his characters, even though most of them die horrible and untimely deaths.
I've also been fixating a lot on sex and mind games and sex *as* a mind game. That sort of goes back to writing Death Note slash, obvsly. Thinking about the boy who won (dammit), and the boy who lost (making things get boring, dammit), and the generally self-destructive pursuit of, ahem, balls still in play.
Also I keep looking for more Christmas chocolate that hasn't been eaten yet.

Date: 2009-01-13 07:02 am (UTC)i am, indeed, a bad, forgetful (but not quite evil..?) friend.
as for what's leaving my head spinning with cool lately?
really, really geeky insights into the history of the English language and words, marveling at how cool Old English was, and wondering if i should start on the path to becoming a linguist of some sort. or, at least, going to work for a dictionary.
ya, i'm THAT geeky. and it probably won't help you much on your quest :-)
