What really makes me laugh about the whole "OMG, FIVE HUNDRED MILLION MEANS NAZI EUGENICS!" thing is that buried in the Torah and yes, even the translated "Old Testament" there's the exact same proscription against overpopulation, with 500 million as the cap for what the Earth can handle.

Silly people not knowing the roots of their religion!

I'll have to go dig up my religious studies/history of religion notes from college, but it's the same passage that the JW's and other Rapture-based sects quote when they talk about how many of the faithful will go away to the "promised land" when the trumpets blare. I remember the discussion turning to "and of course, everyone thinks that THEIR 500 million will be THE 500 million."

wow, ya, i didn't know about that either, but i think i'm in love with it now! it kind of reminds me of the Coral Castle in Florida. i might have to take a tour of Mystic Places in the south one of these days ;-)
