Because, I mean, let's face it. A real James Bond Movie desert should actually contain about twenty different gadgets, from a lockpick to a small thermite charge. An Ian Fleming Bond desert, on the other hand would just walk up behind you and shove a fruit flavored knife between your vertebrae.
And, for the love of god, don't get me started on what a Roger Moore Bond desert would be like.
