All right- thanks to the reminding help of [livejournal.com profile] motomotoyama I have been reminded in full of the existence of the UW Surplus store. A dangerous thing, to be sure, but since I'm A) Not working a dayjob, and B) in serious need of better office/workspace furniture this works well.

The next public day is next tuesday. 8am-3pm. I'm thinking this needs to be a group thing, especially since I'll have both kids with me, which will turn getting a desk into a comedy of errors without a second set of hands along. Anyone interested? We could even do this around noonish, if anyone wants to do an extended lunch break thing. We can also do transport for up to two people in the Van of Doom, if nobody minds the clown-car entrance and exit routine (the sliding side door still isn't working, though the front and rear doors are now fully fixed.)

What's it worth to you? Well, go take a look. Lab gear. Kitchen stuff. Office furniture. All sorts of cool shit, for dirt cheap. The only drawback is that they're open just the one day a week for a few hours- the only thing that kept me from doing this sooner was the dayjob, when I had one.

Location, etc.

I probably shouldn't, and yet... stainless steel lab equipment. If I get enough baking done between now and Monday, and absolutely promise not to buy any test tubes (<lj user=torreybird already picked up a case of them that we don't need the last time they went, but they're so appealing and such a good deal), then I'd be up for a field trip.

I can keep you to the test tube promise, so long as you help me do the same as well (unless we find some with stoppers, in which case I need a few).

So, what time works for you?

I can't remember whether or not Torrey's have stoppers. They probably don't, but for some reason I seem to think they do. If they do, I can hook you up with some.

I'm pretty flexible these days, but not so good at mornings. Maybe early afternoon, like after lunchish?

In addition to the big box of test tubes in the craft parlor, there is in fact a sack of little stoppers suitable for stopping up test tubes, but not suitable for stopping up test tubes of the size that we currently have. The craft parlor is a strange any mysterious place where often it's best not to ask silly questions such as "why on earth do you have a drawer full of this seemingly random category of items?"

hmmmmmm.....

Though, that said, I so wish I had a craft parlor of that particular nature- it's one of my goals in life.

Test tubes?

Ok, you want me to return to my mad scientist ways and wipe out all humanity don't you?

Oh dude... I'd be very interested in one of those A/V monitors for $10! Not sure if I'll make it or not, but if not, if you pick one up for me I'll pay you back plus an extra $5 and a bag 'o leather...

Well, their selection being what it is, I'll keep my eyes open, but no solid guarantees until I can lay hands on one. I assume you'd prefer a working model?

Indeed... wouldn't know how to fix a broken one.
