I want to state beforehand, that in no way have I given up on my principles regarding console systems, or the "purity" of US-designed consoles versus the holy shrine of purely japanese consoles or any other such argument....
We inherited an X-box yesterday, along with two controllers, a pair of Mad Catz lightguns, and the DVD setup. And, while GameStop's site is only shopwing about thirty or so titles available used for the thing, I'm pretty sure there's a good stack of others out there. While I've only played Halo 1&3 on the system at friends' places, I'm more than willing to learn, and expand on that base of knowledge. In short, your game recommendations for this system, I wants them. Or just plain your offers of loans/gifts of games, I'm not picky. I'd prefer without the "...finallyu gave in, huh?" drubbings, but I know my friendlist. Feel free to mock as you will.

Date: 2009-10-04 05:59 pm (UTC)I loves me some Fallout3. My favorite current game, one of my favorites of all time. It's a sandbox-style FPS (i.e., non-linear game, you can play around with what you want to do, although there is an overarching storyline). Awesome setting--2277, post-apocalyptia D.C. Wastelands. In this world, in 2077 nuclear war broke out and pretty much destroyed everything. The world was broadly more advanced than our own, tech-wise, but they kinda got stuck in 1950's culture-land, so you get this really jarring juxtaposition of totally blasted wasteland, Super Mutants, raiders, etc., along with happy-dippy 40's crooning songs and big-band tunes, "Robo-matics", etc. I love it. And really, watching a Super Mutant's head fly off in three parts from a shotgun blast just never gets old.... ;-)
http://store.steampowered.com/ has some good video trailers of the game, and http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/420-Fallout-3 is my favorite review of this game evar.

It's out for xbox, and it is seriously one of the best games I've ever played. It is SO. MUCH. FUN. It's about a psychic kid (Raz) who breaks into the Psychonaut Summer Camp and has to learn how to be a psychic soldier in 4 days before his parents can come get him. Do you remember how awesome LucasArts games were before the Jedi franchise ate them all? Like Monkey Island, or Grim Fandango, just brilliant stuff? This is one of those. Completely worthwhile. I mean, shit, you get to be a gigantic city-smashing monster Goggalor who's fighting for the lungfish revolution to overthrow the oppressive regime of Coachamera. And it's a game that Brenna might get a kick out of, too; my kids play it almost constantly.
