It's really a shame that I've got to go back and paint this piece. The leather's downright lickable on its own.

That's beautiful. I can't wait to see it painted. Even though that leather does look gorgeous-- I like the colors.

Have you ever considered dyeing the leather? That would look awesome unpainted if it were done in green leather. Which I think would be one of the few times that green leather would ever look good.

I know it's too late now and you plan to paint this. I also know nothing about how extensive the dyeing process would be. But it was just a thought.

As I said before, I am really looking forward to seeing this finished.

I would consider it, but you just can't get metallic out of leather dyes, much less seriously fine control.

Don't paint it.
If you really want a version of this that's painted, make another and paint that. When you want to lick the art, consider it successfully done and stop messing with it.

I wish- it's for a commission- this one has to get painted to meet deadlines. However, it'll be easy enough to replicate, should I want to later.
