All right, for those who missed the original post about it, we're going to start hosting a weekly RPG night. And now, it's not just discussion any longer, the game is afoot. For those interested, here's what's going on:

Game night will be every Thursday, starting around 8-8:30pm. Our first game night will be January 7th, so you've got two weeks to figure out your schedules and figure out where your dice are gathering dust at. Location is here, casa du moi & [livejournal.com profile] plaidbrat's.

The Schedule-

We're going to run two regular games on this night, on alternating thursdays. Which means you can take your pick, if your schedule's a bit too packed to attend weekly, or you can just dive right the fuck in on a smorgasboard of escapist fun. The choice is yours, but here's what the games will be:

First and Third Thursdays- On these nights, we'll be playing Low Life, Andy Hopp's whacked-out world of post-post-apocalyptic fantasy. The best description of it? Well, that comes from their own website:

"Sword & Sorcery Adventure in a shattered world inhabited by the descendants of cockroaches, worms, snack cakes, and stranded aliens. Discover the arcane secrets of hocus pokery, dementalism, smellcasting, and holy rolling. Battle hideous beasts, risen from the rubble of ancient civilizations. Enjoy a light lunch at the Primordial Soup Kitchen. Mutha Oith is a world of grand adventure and deadly peril; a world of conflict and danger. It is a land of epic heroism and great evil, a realm of horror and violence, a bold land where even the lowliest cockroach can become a king by his own sword and the most wretched gob of filth can become a gawd.

Are you werm enough to follow your destiny? Do you have the nuggets to take your rightful place among Oith's most valiant heroes? If so, strap on your esophagator hide shield, pick up your poo flinger and your big ass cleaver, mount your pygmy slog, whisper a prayer to Jelvis, kiss your larvae goodbye, and open the goosin' book. The muck-riddled road to epic adventure stands before you... "

Low Life uses the Savage Worlds rule system, which is fairly quick and easy to pick up- if you're not familiar with it already, I recommend checking out the test drive version of it here (warning, it's a .pdf) We'll do character rollup and possibly intro play on the night of the 7th.

Second and Fourth Thursdays aren't fully confirmed yet, but it looks like they could be just as much a main event, as [livejournal.com profile] wakko has offered to come in and GM the latest edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying. I'll let him talk it up in the comments, if he's up for it, but from looking over some of the setting material, this should be a great fantasy game.

All attendees are asked to bring in snacks or beverages to share around in general- while I do plan on having some stuff on hand, I'm not planning on feeding the horde dinner, as it were. Other than that, please RSVP if you're planning on coming- whether it's just on one set of game nights or both- having an idea on numbers is always helpful. But feel free to bring your friends and such!

Cool beans- so are you going to come to every session but the first thursdays, or just do the 2nd and 4th?

I'm more up for Low Life, but I would be willing to give Warhammer a shot as well, even though I was never a big fan of the minitures game.

OK. Low Life'll be interesting, since you'd be missing roughly half of the sessions, but I'm sure we can figure something out.

Here's some more detail:

Fantasy Flight Games just released the 3rd edition of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=93&enmi=Warhammer%20Fantasy%20Roleplay

The game is set in the Warhammer Fantasy world. This game is described as grim fantasy, because it is a dark, unforgiving world filled with dangerous creatures, powerful magic, cultists bent on filling the world with demons, and more!

The new edition brings with it a huge amount of new rules and polished gameplay.

One unique facet of this release is that all of the materials needed to play are being bundled in a "core set". This means that players need not buy anything, as I've got all of the base materials in a single box.

However, those that are interested in having their own copies can either pick up their own core set, or can purchase digital copies of the core books here: http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?affiliate_id=210075&products_id=68990

Our first session will deal with learning the basics of the system, character generation, and (time allowing) a short introductory scenario.

A Grim, Perilous World Awaits

The great Twin-Tailed Comet, a portent tied to both Sigmar and the Empire, has been seen in the sky. To some, it is a sign of hope. To others, the harbinger of doom. Tensions rise, as the effects of a ruthless winter and poor harvests are felt across the Empire – villages and farms find it harder than ever to scrape by, and supplies for the Empire’s constant war efforts dwindle ever lower.

To many citizens, this can mean only one thing. The End Times are at hand. Fear is rife. Another Great War is coming. Beastmen are growing restless, attacking villages with greater frequency and ferocity. The Chaos cults are rising up, summoning daemons, fomenting rebellion, and instigating insurrection throughout the Empire’s cities. Bands of Chaos marauders scout further and further south than usual – some even penetrating as far as the Reikland to test the Empire’s defences for the coming conflict.

In the midst of this bleak, brewing turmoil, the adventurers are beacons of hope. Fate has called to them, binding them with the silvery threads of destiny and fortune. Together, valiant humans of the Reikland, wood elves from Athel Loren, high elves from distant Ulthuan, and the dwarfs of Karak Azgaraz face the formidable threats of the Old World.

Can these brave few fulfil their destinies as Fate’s champions in this, the Empire’s time of greatest need?
