Review time! (AKA, god I'm bored.)
Nov. 16th, 2007 09:46 amSome of you might remember the good old anime Casshan: Robot Hunter. Good epic cheese- robots destroying robots, all the sugar-loaded goodness of a Saturday morning loaded with early nineties anime.
Well, if you hadn't heard, it got a remake. And an update from anime to live action with a serious CGI overlay. So, how is it? Worthy. It's still epic cheese- there's unexplained plot holes big enough for a cruiser to sail through, but my god- it's pretty. Part steam/cyber-punk, part propaganda poster. The use of effects does git a bit much in some places, but otherwise it pulls it off well. As for the storyline, it updates and reinvents the old storyline, and does it in a fairly decent manner, adding a couple of extra dramatic layers to it that really make the storyline pop. All in all, good movie- definitely rent it when you get the chance, if you're in the mood for some good brain candy.
