I'm in a bit of a situation here. The injury to my foot, if anything, has gotten worse in the 12 days since it initially happened (Wow. It's been that long? Fuck.) Today is no exception- the swelling has increased to the point where I've had to loosen my shoe up. Again. If that continues, I'll be running out of laces soon. The pain has also been staying on about the same level, if not increasing. And due to either my system getting used to the Vicodin, or other factors, the drugs are not helping much with the pain any longer.

We all know what the advice here should be. Same advice I'd give to anyone else in this kind of situation: "Go see your doctor."

Problem is, I'm not sure I can. Thanks to work's wonderful policy, I can't call in right now without losing my job. And between getting an appointment set up, and probably having to go do X-rays at another location the same day, I'd probably need to take the entire day away from work. Fuck. Fucking Fucking Fuck.

Some clinics have Saturday hours - check around. You may not get to see your PCP, but you wouldn't have to miss work.

Unfortunately, it's past that point. My job require me to be on my feet for most of the day, and well, walking is getting unbearable, even medicated. Not to mention I have exactly one dose of vicodin left at this point. Which means I really can't and probably shouldn't wait until Saturday to get stuff dealt with.

You job cannot fire you if you are honestly sick. Something to do with Family health services act..... You have to get a "note" from your doctor and if they balk at the idea of you missing work you could always bring up the point that if they don't let you go to the dr. to find out why this is getting worse they could be held liable if there is to be permanent damage (not that I think there is but its nice to throw that in their faces).

If the pain and swelling has been getting worse, it's not something to screw around with. If you can't get out of work today, try getting an appointment for after work.
The reason I would be so concerned is the possibility of a staph infection. When Craig had pain in his knee after he hurt it that didn't go away and kept increasing, coupled with swelling; it turned out to be a staph infection. He put off going to the doctor and was within hours of becoming septic.

So I hate to say it, but...go see your doctor.

For those keeping track, the husband should now be out of work, his boss is up to bat for him, as she does not want to lose him. Our normal doctor's office is closed due to a power outage, but urgent care covered by our insurance has been found and has been emailed to the husband's home email address. If he has time to post when he gets home, I'm sure he will.

I also just want to add a big Thank You for your replies to this post, as it helps the husband to hear from someone besides me that he should see a doctor.
