The one thing I still lust for- the giant broken antenna lying in the alley near our apartment building. It's big. It's gorgeous. A wonderfully tall, wonderfully durable all-metal framework just begging to be converted into a new display stand for Tormented Artifacts. If it were about two or three feet shorter. As it is, I can't even get it up into our apartment building. And the pipes that make this thing are at least a quarter-inch thick. Not something I want to try and take a hacksaw to. I don't suppose anyone's recently acquired (or just plain has and would be willing to abuse) a cutting torch and the necessary skill to use it effectively? Hell, I'll even do trade for it- gasmask art for cutting, or the extra remains of the antenna, if scrap metal's what you're into.

Sadly I do not, otherwise I'd totally help you scavenge.

I have a Dremel and a bunch of cutting blades, but my inkling is that this is a much more intensive job than can be accomplished with said dremel.

Yeah, this thing would probably eat the Dremel's motor for breakfast. Thanks though.

Part of me really wants to find out if a blowtorch would do the job, but I don't want to go to the expense of picking one up, plus sparker, etc only to have it do nothing more than just get it hot.

You might be able to post a 'I will pay you _cool thing_ if you come do this' onto craigslist in the barter section. People are oddly responsive to that list.

I could kit-bash a cutting torch....

Oh, if you know someone with an arc-welding set, you could try that. You can also use an arc-welder to make a ghetto plasma lance.

Will eat through those pipes like butter. Safer than a cutting torch, and much easier to use. (Also known as a reciprocating saw)

Some places will even rent them to you. You'd just have to buy your own blades.

Or, if you have a circular saw, you can get a metal cutting blade for those too. Lots of sparks. Like in the Art of Noise "Close to the Edit" video...

I've got an angle grinder that'd do it, but it's not cordless... you'd have to haul it within range of an outlet.

Angle grinder. I'm not even remotely familiar. Is it portable at all? If so, this could work. Think you'd be free to drop by sometime in the near future?

That kinda thing. Noisy and messy to use, but can do the job.

Could maybe stop by tomorrow on a lunch break or after work or something, but I'm headed out of town butt early Friday morning, haven't packed, haven't done this week's school work, have someone coming to return props tomorrow evening, etc etc.

After work tomorrow would definitely work (around what time?) Or if need be, we can do it sometime next week or whenever- it's sat out there for months. I don't think anyone else is going to be taking it anytime soon.

Later would be better. I'm crazy busy (as mentioned) but will be up on Cap Hill later this month for rehearsals.

My bad for procrastinating about this whole thing, but hopefully you get your replies emailed to you, as my address book doesn't have yours right off the bat. Anyways, would you still be willing to help me out on this whole antenna salvage project? If so, any chance you'd have free time in the next week or so?
