"Left and right, all Americans know that freedom is better than slavery, that love is better than hate, kindness better than cruelty, tolerance better than bigotry. We don't always know how we know these things, and yet mysteriously we know them nonetheless."
What the fuck? In all the idiocy crammed into that article, this paragraph really takes the cake. I want to burn him.
There is a small amount of truth in the column. Like there is truth when Bushie's remind us that both Lincoln and Roosevelt suspended Habeas Corpus.
What they miss is that while Batman did spy on everyone to find the Joker, he sought approval for it and destroyed it in the end. The extensions of Presidential power that Bush seeks are permanent.
And of course we see that Batman saw that his way was the extreme needed for the moment. He was looking to balance the system and retire.
As a comic book purist, I'm offended he concluded that there are times you got to kill the bad guy... Which is something that Batman does not do, not even in the current Batman movies.
Yes, sometimes doing the right thing is hard and unpopular. But this jack ass seems to be arguing that since Bush is doing something hard and unpopular, that _clearly_ means he's doing the right thing. Well, no. Sometimes being unpopular just means you're a moronic asshole.
I'm clinging to the desperate belief that this article is a badly-spun joke. Or satire. Yes, satire--it must be satire. No one can possibly be this braindead.
Hmm... you know, I've been kicking around a sermon at my church lately on exactly why we *must* treat everyone with equal worth and dignity, regardless of whether or not they actually have or deserve it. I think this piece just pushed me over the edge there.
Ok, no. I can't keep holding it back. It's like trying to stopper up a diesel explosion in a glass bottle. This thing makes my brain hurt, just from keeping the damn tab open in my browser.
All i have to say about the above is this: Satire or not, (and it probably isn't.) you know there's some people more than willing to believe that stuff.
Gah.
Ok, time to get the brain-bleach now and thoroughly scrub.
That's... a special article. Yes. Special. *shudder*
Canuckistan is currently pretty and sunny this Friday afternoon - at least, my corner of the country is. Dunno about how to apply for citizenship, though. I contrived to be born here - it seemed easiest.
Yes, well, I think it may be a little late for me to use that method.
So, is what I hear true? There's such a thing as tolerance up there? The streets are paved with the bones of whackjob fundie nutballs? There's an extra spout at every sink for the free maple syrup that gets piped in?
Hmmm..... Reminds me whne they were trying to spin the Lord of the ring moive this way. Hey, wait till I get the shirts done before ya move! Shipping to Switerland is bloody hight right now.
This comparison would work if Batman, instead of going after the Joker who blew shit up, went after the Penguin because he had "proof" that the Penguin was going to blow shit up.

Bush is the Caesar that Batman feared.
