Ahhhhh, while the Grand Ole' Party has always been a particularly rich source of material for posting, I may have to give it up. Because the jokes are now officially writing themselves.  What. The. Fuck. My prediction earlier this year about schism, chaos and downfall for the GOP wasn't supposed to hit the nail on the head quite so well.

For a bunch of reasons (winner-take-all, non-parliamentary system, etc.) our national voting system is only stable as two parties--so say the Republicans do marginalize themselves into minor party status. The Democrats will then drift (further) right to occupy the space the Republicans did, and either a Republican refugee/Democrat splinter faction or a center-left Democrat/Green alliance party springs up to take over being centrist.
