Sadly, The Book of Lost Hours utterly fails to work as a chick magnet.

"Here, look at my book full of insane artwork, shiny bits, and a working clock." just doesn't have the same ring as "my etchings."

That said though, I'm more and more convinced that I made something with a bit of a Lovecraftian nature. It refuses to let itself be sold until the people who're supposed to see have seen it, if that makes any sense. And I think I'm willing to let it- the reactions I keep getting from people are certainly worth it.

And the real purpose of this post? NEW AVATAR. Courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] blakthorne. Am I not truly sexy?

Don't feel bad... it's not like "wanna read my gay space elf comic?" is much of a guy-magnet. XD

ooo baby.

Sadly, no. The price of doing well at the Vampire Ball is that I need to work my ass off to get ready for Sakura next weekend.

You're planning to sell that? No you're not. Really? How could you possibly possess such a thing and then let it go? It has time that goes both ways, and a heartbeat like a spent lover. How can something like that have a price, much less a cashmoney value? If I knew that you weren't planning to keep it for your own self for ever and ever, I wouldn't have stopped myself from licking it while you weren't looking.

Ok, let me break that all down as much as I can....

1. Yes, I'm selling it. I spent four months on the thing. If I don't take it out and attempt to sell it, no-one would see it. It still doesn't let me sleep a full night some nights.

2. Yes really. The clock ticks both ways, but both tick downwards. Keeping it here would kill both it and me. Giving it away would make it without value.

3. I'm still not getting the licking thing. Partly for the paper cut factor and partly for sealant poisoning.

Yeah, ok, I can respect that.

Not just the ticking through both covers, but the back of the first page that goes backwards. Something about that grabbed me.

The short answer about the licking thing is that if I really like something, I want to experience it as fully as possible with as many senses as possible. I know it's not reasonable, but I don't want to have to be reasonable about art. I wouldn't lick something like that with wild abandon or anything, just enough to know that I'd let myself do it. It's also sort of like licking your favorite spoon so that no one else will steal it, it's a symbolic commitment to something I feel strongly about.

I was looking at the pictures of it on your Deviant Art page last night. I hadn't realized the first time through that the text on the front page is actually the table of contents, not just the first piece. It hadn't occurred to me at all that it was full of number magic, now I wantss it again-again so I can look at the pages with their titles in mind.

There's the numeric magic, which goes two different ways, and then the nomenclative magic, and then the lost objects. I tried to hide as much as I could.

...Not to mention the three hours that have hidden underpainting.

Now I need more.

I think it was the hidden under painting that really made me salivate. Obviously I didn't have enough time to really dive into it while I needed to pay attention to other matters, but the initial hit went straight to the back of my brain. I really wanted to dig around in it to taste all the layers, but then I wouldn't have gotten anything else done.

I'm going to have to disappoint you I think- the underpainting's truly hidden. In one case, it's flat enough that there's no texture difference from the rest of that hour, in another, it's sealed in the middle of said hour, and in the final case, it is positioned in such a way that it canot be seen without destroying the hour it's part of. Now that I look back at it, I really did get obsessed with some of the weird details I placed in there.

All I know is that there were bits I could sort of see and wanted to look at more closely, and that it radiated some sort of energy I wanted a bowl full of. Whether or not that had to do with the underpainting, you're the one who made it the way it is, so you can't deny you believe it works. I think I can't continue to discuss this in an open forum for risk of sounding all woo-woo.
