I'm still not sure how I feel about this one.
iArtist London.
IARTISTLONDON is the cool new brand that enables you to make real contemporary pieces of art from the comfort of your home. All those pieces that you always wanted to have but couldn´t afford. We believe art should be for everyone. Our boxes contain all the necessary elements so you only have to concentrate on creating. In no time you will have a masterpiece created by yourself. It couldn’t be easier!
Now admittedly, this is probably a spoof site to some degree. And I doubt we'll see anyone successfully recreating Hirst's skull, but bleeding themselves dry trying to re-create Quinn's work? (ok, that one probably happens mroe often by fools trying to do it without the right equipment.) And a bunch of bad-copy Banksy sprays that could get mistaken for the real thing?
Part of me really wants to know that the original artists are getting a royalty at least, though the promotion for the actual works themselves is pretty nifty. Part of me's also pretty annoyed- part of what makes a truly unique artwork so amazing and worthwhile is the fact that they're so difficult to reproduce. Not that anybody's going to make a very good replice with these, but it seems to me like it cheapens the value of the original. I dunno- discuss.
