All right- this post has been a few days coming, and it's apparently something that needs to be said, since I've actually been recently unfriended over this- at least, that's the best reason I can think of for it.

I am not your dancing monkey.

If you're entertained by my artwork, if you love it, if it speaks to you, if it makes you think or do or feel anything, that's great. Hell, it's fucking wonderful- I love it if there's any kind of connection between other people and the stuff I do, but that said, I'm not doing it for you specifically. I'm doing it for me. While I appreciate people's input on the cards and other pieces, unless you're specifically commissioning me to make something for you, you don't get to make me change my artwork. Ever. This is my work, my ideas and thoughts, my voices inside my head that will not shut up unless I put them on some kind of canvas, and my visions. Not yours. You are not the dictator in my own little crazy-headed world. I am.

If you dislike some of my artwork, that's entirely your choice, and I wouldn't think any less of you for it. If you feel the need to tell me that fact, no worries- I'm glad to hear any input, positive or negative. But if you expect me to apologize for or change my art because you have an issue with it- you can go fuck yourself. Feel free to comment that you dislike something, but do not expect me to apologize or change things that you do not like. Also, do not try to act as the "voice of authority" and pull the passive aggressive stance of saying that "other people" will not buy my art for X reason- If you won't buy a piece, then tell me why YOU wouldn't buy it- honesty of that nature carries more weight with me than trying to sound like an expert on my customers/buyers ever will. And is a lot less likely to generate a rather pissed off response from me.

Clear?

Seriously? WTF? Who the hell... nevermind. We get those in game producing circles. The asshat on one of the forums who announced that he would never buy one of Jason Morningstar's games, and why wasn't Jason writing games specifically for him?

The fucking nerve.

For the record, I love practically everything I've seen of yours.

Seriously- not gonna name names, because, well, it just isn't worth it. But yes, I hate that fucking attitude any time I see it come up online, and now that I see it being used on me? Oh yes, the hatred, it fucking burns, man.

No shit. I hate that crap. I am always getting people giving me advice on what I should and should not do with my beadwork and crafts - as if they are the fucking world authority. While what I do rarely offends anyone, I still get my share of back-handed compliments and rudeness. I'm with you on the fact that unless someone is doing a custom order (for which I require money in advance from anyone but friends these days - if I even agree to it in the first place), I'm not inclined to have them dictate my muse to me.

Hey now- I can appreciate a good single-malt and truly enjoy it. I can also swing down a fifth of JD without batting an eye (ok, not so much these days.) I mean, if it's down to a shot of either, give me the single-malt. But if I'm just grabbing something to sit back and drink while enjoying time with friends, rather than doing an all-encompassing appreciation of the booze, it'll probably be the JD.

I generally prefer my cheap drinks to taste better than low-grade kerosene :)

Gimme the Polish vodka any day.

Preach it, brother!

If they know so well what "needs" to be done to make it "better", they can fucking do it themselves.

Buncha talentless jackasses trying to make themselves feel important by trying to control someone with far more talent and ability. World's filled with the bastards. Best to ignore them, they're not worth the effort.

Holy shit. Hardrock, I think this is the first time I've seen you both this vehement and speaking out on my side of things at the same time. Are you sure you're feeling all right?

Art is something I'm very passionate about. My current lack of ability to pursue my own art is not helping.

Individual merit is another issue I'm passionate about. I have an almost randroid disdain for people who feel they're entitled to control and denigrate those who actually make the effort to be creative and productive, but are too lazy to make the effort to produce anything creative themselves.

There's an unfortunately huge undercurrent of anti-intellectualism in American culture.

You meaning me with the fail? I mean admittedly, this goes against my policy about setting up for flamebait, but I really just plain needed to post this one.

OHNO, not you! Not you at all!

I'm reminded of a 20 minute conversation I should have ended once after 3, wherein a person proceeded to lecture me on how I wasn't using the right kinds of beads in my jewelry and I wouldn't ever be successful because I wasn't using these "right" beads. But the 10+ years of retail conditioning still hold.

Oh yes, that they do. Part of me almost wanted to apologize- hell it's ingrained into us as humans from when we were young'uns. You do something that makes someone else feel bad, and you'd better say sorry, or get in trouble.

These days, I figure I like trouble.

As I was telling Plaidbrat, I ran into this a couple of times. I had one well-meaning but ultimately misguided acquaintance 'volunteer' to 'collaborate' on my paintings and drawings, and he didn't take it that well when I explained that I really am still working on the mechanics on my craft, and I prefer working alone anyways.

I've been finding lately that people get weird around creative folk. Like they want part of the prestige and status, but don't want to put in the work.

Prestige? Status? Fuck, they can have 'em. Along with the low pay, irritated customers, and people like themselves, the irritable non-customers.

Wow, this is like, the second post I've seen on my F-list with this theme. My sister had some one chew her out over a rabbit pic this week on all the same point as this. She's to polite to them em to go to hell.

Yeah. I have lately been becoming more and more bitter about the whole 'art' thing. People like this need to go make something themselves rather than backseat driving someone else's work.

fucking asshats
