All right- this post has been a few days coming, and it's apparently something that needs to be said, since I've actually been recently unfriended over this- at least, that's the best reason I can think of for it.

I am not your dancing monkey.

If you're entertained by my artwork, if you love it, if it speaks to you, if it makes you think or do or feel anything, that's great. Hell, it's fucking wonderful- I love it if there's any kind of connection between other people and the stuff I do, but that said, I'm not doing it for you specifically. I'm doing it for me. While I appreciate people's input on the cards and other pieces, unless you're specifically commissioning me to make something for you, you don't get to make me change my artwork. Ever. This is my work, my ideas and thoughts, my voices inside my head that will not shut up unless I put them on some kind of canvas, and my visions. Not yours. You are not the dictator in my own little crazy-headed world. I am.

If you dislike some of my artwork, that's entirely your choice, and I wouldn't think any less of you for it. If you feel the need to tell me that fact, no worries- I'm glad to hear any input, positive or negative. But if you expect me to apologize for or change my art because you have an issue with it- you can go fuck yourself. Feel free to comment that you dislike something, but do not expect me to apologize or change things that you do not like. Also, do not try to act as the "voice of authority" and pull the passive aggressive stance of saying that "other people" will not buy my art for X reason- If you won't buy a piece, then tell me why YOU wouldn't buy it- honesty of that nature carries more weight with me than trying to sound like an expert on my customers/buyers ever will. And is a lot less likely to generate a rather pissed off response from me.

Clear?

As I was telling Plaidbrat, I ran into this a couple of times. I had one well-meaning but ultimately misguided acquaintance 'volunteer' to 'collaborate' on my paintings and drawings, and he didn't take it that well when I explained that I really am still working on the mechanics on my craft, and I prefer working alone anyways.

I've been finding lately that people get weird around creative folk. Like they want part of the prestige and status, but don't want to put in the work.

Prestige? Status? Fuck, they can have 'em. Along with the low pay, irritated customers, and people like themselves, the irritable non-customers.
