ARGH!
So, last Saturday, while doing a metric fuckton of yardwork, I manage to nail my ankle, right on the bone, with the point of a shovel. Hurt quite a bit, but the swelling and pain went down that night. Sunday, monday, tuesday, I'm walking around on it perfectly normally, not even a twinge. Today, I wake up to bruising and MASSIVE pain. Either my body's really taking a while to get caught up to things, or some evil gnome is dropping cinderblocks on my feet in the dead of night.
...I'm almost more tempted to believe in the gnome.

(You mentioned hitting yourself with the point of the shovel. Did you break the skin?)

(Yes, but I'm up to date on all my tetnaus shots, thanks to a nice scooter accident a while back)
