with only 128MB currently, and sonce I'd be using it as a VST host on top of everything else, it's a big system strain. As it is, Fruity Loops'll completely crash my system if I'm not careful.
To be perfectly honest I'm not entirely certain what I've got tunder the hood at home- the only time I've cracked open the case was to deal with a fan noise issue. But hey, if the SDRAM fits, I'll take it. Hell, if you want I'll even work you a trade- help me with the ram, and possibly moving a 3d card into my current machine from one of our old dead towers that I've been keeping around for parts, and if you want, you can grab any of our spare parts. (the stack currently includes something like 3 hard drives [at least one is an 8 gig] mobo's (Pentium & pentium II) and other various parts).
If the board is more than two years old, there's a good chance it's sdram.
Do you have the install disc for the video card? Otherwise you may need to find a driver online, probably. The irony is that, if it's bad enough that the OS can't display anything, you can't browse to download the driver. :)
I'm not wanting for hard drive space. Maybe blue-hair can rub my neck or something while I work. -laugh- Too bad we don't use the same music software - I need help with Reason.
As I recall, its one of the voodo types- XP home ed should have the driver as a standard.
Heh- I cannot and will not speak for the blue haired one. Besides- the help I need is more along the lines of- "Don't do that, you'll burn your hand off."
Um, James, there's some things in my life I just don't let people touch when I'm not around. I trust you, but, well, I've had systems ruined by friends who decided to "upgrade" them for me. Forgive me, but, well, I'm paranoid.
Ok, so what've we got for options.... either sundays after 5 or weeknights by my schedule... You? That is, if ya still want to do this.Or, just hook me up with the RAM at some point, and I'll just try it out myself.
Not knowing about music gives you the perfect ability to critique though- those ofus who make stuff will often overanalyze- I'm not saying livingdeadpan is, but I know how I can get when I'm listening to seomeone else's track that's up for critique.
Besides you're reacting with what you like and don't like. That good info as far as I'm concerned.

Date: 2004-05-11 10:01 pm (UTC)Since I get annoyed when my music posts get no comments.
1. Nice, but doesn't really get me going, either. Kind of a backgrounder. 3/5
2. Good. Changes nicely between phrases; simple, pretty passages, etc. 4/5
3. Can't say I like the choice of higher sounds, and it turned me off to it. I never got hooked in. 2/5
What do you use? I'm learning Reason after 2 1/2 years of writing scores in classical style. -heh-

Date: 2004-05-12 06:59 am (UTC)Been using Fruity Loops as well as ACID Screenblast. Haven't tried reason out yet, mostly because of financial/memory issues.

Date: 2004-05-12 07:26 am (UTC)Yeah, a guy sold me a CD-R burn of 2.0 for $55.
-hm- It's supposed to not need much in the way of CPU/memory. Well, memory I guess I can see.

Date: 2004-05-12 10:47 am (UTC)Okay, so I should bring over some sdram. Voodoo should be easily recognized by XP, yes. And my hands are burn-free, so no problem, there.
