The growing idea may require your assistance, and possibly Steph's as well, utilizing the separate expertise of you both.

Then it may have to wait until we get into a place with some workshop room. Still, I'm game. What's the concept?

I have space, dude.
...mutter, mutter... think hoopskirt (it is spring steel, after all, ideal for hoops), only meant to show, with stuff on it. I might or night not do a gauze overskirt (depending on how it comes out), will certainly have a petticoat under it. Heavy on the industrial aspect of steampunk, but with scraps of velvet, ribbon and lace to soften it a little.
I am not at all certain I can make it work, but I think that the three of us together might manage it.

Actually, I know I could do the brass framework of the skirt. Hoops, or would a spiral do? The less we have to cut and drill those springs, the better- I'm not sure how much abuse our drillbits would take- the one I used for Tempus was a general purpose one, and I don't have metal-graded bits.

A spiral would totally work!

Bolt cutters. I need bolt cutters.

No, no you don't- those should NOT need bolt cutters. Tin snips. That's what you need. Don't use a laser to write on a sheet of paper.

It's for the stems the damned cogs are on. Ok, possibly bolt cutters are overkill, but I need something more heavy-duty than what I have to hand, which are little wire snips.

Oh, those- two pair of needle-nosed pliers or vise grips is what I used. They break easy, after a bit of flexing back and forth.

Well, just after posting my last reply, I remembered that I had tools which were not in the house, and went and retrieved them from the car, and the world is now better, and there may be watch fobs forthcoming this evening.
